For Bowman, the tradeoffs are clear—the dirt, the hours, the uncertainty between projects. But so is the payoff: steady pay, in-demand skills, and work that can’t be automated away. “The fortunate thing is AI hasn’t found a way to turn the wrench yet,” Bowman said.
